Israel to partner Gujarat in mega agricultural meet

February 03, 2013 02:00 am | Updated June 13, 2016 03:12 am IST - AHMEDABAD:

If United Kingdom could soften its stand towards Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Israel agreeing to partner with the State is only natural. The country is all set to join hands with the State in an agricultural meet that Mr. Modi plans on the lines of his much-touted Vibrant Gujarat industrial summit.

Mr. Modi sent out an invite to Israel to be a country partner in his 2014 event Gujarat Agro Tech Global Fair, similar to the biennial Vibrant Gujarat meet, and Israel’s Ambassador to India Alon Ushpiz, accepted the offer during his visit to the State this week. Mr. Ushpiz was accompanied by his colleague and Israel Consul General Orna Sagiv.

He is even learnt to have suggested setting up a corpus fund to expand partnership between the State and Israel for industrial development as well as research and development. Gujarat has also received an invitation to a global water conference in Israel scheduled for October.

Business linkages

Even now the Israel government and Israeli companies have business linkages with Gujarat.

State government sources said the discussions also took place to set up centres of excellence with Gujarat’s agricultural universities and to collaborate in agro research and human resource development.
