IPS officer trainee drowns at Police Academy

Manu Mukt Manav, who halied from Hisar in Haryana, was among 66 candidates selected to the IPS in 2013.

An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer trainee, Manu Mukt Manav, died at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad two days ago after he entered the swimming pool on the academy premises.

Manav entered the pool adjacent to the Officers’ Club, where a get-together was organised on Thursday night by some IPS officer trainees, who were qualified for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), as a farewell gesture. On conclusion of the event, Manav stepped into the pool and tried to cross over to the other side, an official statement from the academy said.

“When he was seen struggling, he was rescued by some fellow officer trainees and support staff,” it said.

He was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation and taken to the academy hospital. Later, he was shifted to Care hospital, Banjara Hills, where doctors pronounced him dead.

A case of unnatural death under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code was registered by Rajendranagar police. The body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital morgue. Forensic doctors performed the autopsy. Manav hails from Hisar of Haryana. He was among 66 candidates selected to the IPS in 2013.
