Indian fisherman died a month ago in Karachi jail

One more Indian fisherman Bala Naran Singad from Sonari village, Una taluka of Gujarat died in Karachi jail on the night of July 24, according to information given by local activists who are demanding his body be sent home.

It is over a month and his body is kept at Edhi Center in Karachi. His family members and other villagers are demanding that the Indian High Commission take some action to return his body soon. Sources said the High Commission officials were told about the death of the fisherman only on August 28.

It is learnt that High Commission has sent a communication to the Indian government to confirm the nationality of the deceased. Usually this procedure which should not take more than a few days, takes months.

Common feature
Activists lobbying for better facilitation in such situations said that this was a common feature that whenever fisherman whether he is Indian or Pakistani dies in the other country’s jail it takes more than a month for all the paper work to be done for the families to get the body back.
