Addressing the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi’s 51st convocation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said technology would be playing the biggest role in the post-COVID world and that virtual reality and augmented reality had now become the working reality.
PM Modi also emphasised on innovations on a mass scale and focus on quality ensuring reliability and adaptability.
“Focus on quality — never compromise, ensure scalability — make your innovations work at a mass scale, assure reliability — build long-term trust in the market and bring in adaptability — be open to change and expect uncertainty as a way of life. If we work on these mantras then it will reflect the country’s product and will get global recognition.”

The pandemic has taught that while globalisation is important, self-reliance is equally important, Mr. Modi said.
Speaking about the ease of doing business, Mr. Modi said, “You [students] have one job. If the government gives you ease of doing business, then you bring in new innovations to give the poorest people the ease of living. Be it the technology industry or the agricultural sector, innovations are happening in all sectors today.”

The Prime Minister said technological advancements had made the common man’s life easier and reduced corruption.
Urging the graduates to identify the country’s needs and make innovations and advancements in fields like post-disaster management, solar power and maintaining groundwater levels, Mr. Modi said, “Flexibility and humility will help enhance your abilities. Be the original version of yourself and champion whatever values you believe in.
“The Atma Nirbhar campaign is a mission that gives opportunities to youth, technocrats and tech-enterprises of the country,” he said.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched the eVidya@IITD that stands for Enabling Virtual and Interactive learning for Driving Youth Advancement.
While degrees were conferred on 2,019 graduating students this year, IIT-D Director Professor V. Ramgopal Rao said, “In the last five years, IIT Delhi faculty and students have written over 1,000 high quality papers, filed over 500 patents, executed 150 industry projects and obtained over ₹1,300 cr. of research funding from competitive grants from all over the world.”
