The Delhi Metro railway got a monetary boost on Thursday with a budgetary allocation of Rs.5,181.12 crore for its Phase-III projects. The amount combines both Plan and non-Plan allocations with the Central Government providing Budget support of Rs.3,000 crore while the rest is non-Plan allocations.
The Central Government had allocated Rs.4,511.89 crore (Plan and non-Plan combined) in the 2012-13 Union Budget thereby increasing the allocation by Rs.669.23 crore under the 2013-14 Budget. In addition, under the “Budget provisions under the object head grants for creation of capital assets”, Rs. 120 crore is provided as grants to the Delhi Metro. “The grant is for expansions in Faridabad and Bahadurgarh under the National Capital Region,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation spokesperson.
Further, the Central Government will infuse Rs.650 crore as equity in the Delhi Metro and has granted a pass through assistance (PTA) of Rs.1,750 crore.
While the equity is a provision for investment, the PTA is for externally aided projects.
