Heat wave swept across Odisha with western Odisha town of Balangir sizzling at 45.7 degrees Celsius and at least 13 places recording daytime temperature above 40 degree Celsius on Saturday.
Blistering heat threw life out of gear as people preferred to stay inside and all other activities came to a standstill in the western Odisha towns.
The State government has so far confirmed eight deaths due to scorching heat this summer.. While Angul district reported three deaths due to sunstroke, two persons died of heat stroke in Sambalpur and Bargarh district.

According to Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, Balangir is followed by Titlagarh with 45.5 degree Celsius. Angul, Bhawanipatna and southern Odisha town of Malkangiri recorded daytime temperature above 44 degree Celsius. It needs to be noted that the IMD had issued a heat wave warning for the State. At many places, mostly along the coast, night temperatures hovered close to 30 degree Celsius, giving no relief from high temperature.
