He paid for his sins, says Delhi victim’s mother

“His guilt did not allow him to live. Through his death, he is only paying for his sins, what more can we say,” said the mother of the 23-year-old Delhi physiotherapy student who died after she was gang-raped and brutally assaulted by six men in a moving bus on December 16.

“We got to know about Ram Singh’s death through television and later mediapersons started calling us. Initially when we heard the news, we felt that God had punished Ram Singh for torturing and killing a young innocent child,” she added.

The victim’s father said: “Dealing with a child’s death is tough, but when a child is killed so brutally it is very difficult for the parents to come to terms with the incident. My daughter’s death has shocked and pained the entire family. Sadly now Ram Singh has snatched the luxury of choosing how he dies, which has added to the trauma of the family. He should have been punished and hanged.”

“We demand that all the accused in the crime, including the juvenile, who we are told was the most violent, be hanged. No mercy should be shown to any of the accused,” he added.

The victim’s brother said Ram Singh was well aware of the fact that there was a strong case against him. “His suicide seems unfair because he seems to have short-circuited the system and escaped punishment. We would strongly appeal to the government to ensure that other men don’t follow suit,” he said.

Insisting that all the accused be punished as per the rules, he added: “We are satisfied with the ongoing trial in the fast-track court. We hope that this death does not adversely affect the case. We want justice for my sister.’’
