A 35-year-old resident of Nilokheri in Karnal was killed on Monday night when he was hit by a speeding police vehicle, part of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s convoy, on National Highway No 1. Two police personnel travelling in the Police Control Room van involved in the accident suffered minor injuries.

Mr. Khattar was going to New Delhi from Chandigarh. As his convoy reached Taraori, a pedestrian came in its way. The driver braked hard and swerved, but could not avoid hitting him.

The victim was identified as Satpal Kashyap, a resident of Takhana village. The two police personnel – Assistant Sub Inspector Mann Singh and Constable Ravinder – suffered minor injuries on their face and hands. All of them were taken to the Trauma Centre in Karnal, where Kashyap was declared dead.

While the Chief Minister offered Rs. 5 lakh financial assistance to the family of the deceased, Mr. Vij announced an additional Rs. 5 lakh. The District Red Cross Society, Karnal, has also offered a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh, taking the total to Rs. 11 lakh.
