The Gupta brothers who have been accused of corruption in South Africa are now in Dubai after a brief visit to India, said a family spokesperson on Monday. They will continue to fight the legal case from there, said Javed Sabri, a close family friend in Saharanpur, where the three brothers Ajay, Atul and Rajesh Gupta grew up.
The Gupta brothers, accused of influence-peddling and swaying the appointment of Cabinet Ministers by South Africa’s top anti-corruption watchdog and misusing the Jacob Zuma connection to obtain illegal favours, were in Dehradun and Saharanpur after the South African authorities started a crackdown on their business last week. They visited Saharanpur to attend the Mahashivratri puja last Tuesday and later left for Dehradun.
Hours after authorities conducted raids at the luxurious mansions of the Gupta brothers last Thursday, Mr. Zuma resigned as President of South Africa.
