German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said here on Saturday that this year’s United Nations General Assembly session would be significant for India and Germany, which form the G-4 bloc pushing for Security Council representation, together with Japan and Brazil. “The Security Council no longer reflects today’s geopolitical realities,” Dr. Steinmeier said in an e-mail interview to The Hindu. “We believe that 2015, 70 years after the founding of the U.N. and 10 years after the last reform, could be the right time to move forward.”
Germany is also hopeful that the NDA government will reconsider the bid for MMRCA fighter aircrafts, a $20-billion deal that is being negotiated with France’s Dassault. “We believe that the Eurofighter Typhoon consortium has made a good offer, and we support it,” Dr. Steinmeier said.
