10 iconic places to get better amenities

The Centre has decided to bring 10 iconic places in India under phase-II of the Swachh Iconic Places (SIP) initiative, to ensure better cleanliness and improved amenities for visitors.

The 10 places are: Gangotri, Yamunotri, Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Char Minar in Hyderabad, Church and Convent of St. Francis of Assisi in Goa, Adi Shankaracharya’s abode Kaladi in Ernakulam, Gomateshwar in Shravanabelagola, Baijnath Dham in Devghar, Gaya Tirth in Bihar and the Somnath temple in Gujarat.

Union Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Sanitation, Narendra Singh Tomar, made the announcement at the second quarterly review meeting on the Swachh Iconic Places under the Swachh Bharat Mission at the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday.

The 10 iconic places already in Phase-I are: Ajmer Sharif Dargah, CST Mumbai, the Golden temple in Amritsar, Kamakhya temple in Assam, Maikarnika Ghat in Varanasi, Meenakshi temple in Madurai, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra, Shree Jagannath temple in Puri, Taj Mahal and the Venkateswara temple in Tirupati.
