Cracking the whip, Tihar authorities on Monday suspended four officials and recommended disciplinary action against a jail Superintendent following an inquiry into reports that special treatment was being given to the dismissed CWG organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi and other high-profile inmates on prison premises.

Jitendra Pal and Krishan Kumar, both Assistant Superintendents, and Satbir, Head Warden of Jail Number 4 where Mr. Kalmadi is lodged in connection with Commonwealth Games scam, have been suspended, Tihar Deputy Inspector General (DIG) R N Sharma told reporters here.

The authorities have also sent a report to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for further disciplinary action against Jail Superintendent S.C. Bhardwaj, with whom Mr. Kalmadi was reportedly found having tea by inspecting trial court judge Brijesh Kumar Garg during a surprise visit to the jail on June 30.

Mr. Bhardwaj was subsequently transferred to Port Blair but the officials had then said that the transfer was not related to the alleged incident.

Monday’s action came after an inquiry was carried out by officer-in-charge of Vigilance Dinesh Gandhi.

Mr. Kalmadi, an accused in Commonwealth Games scams, is lodged in Jail No 4 of Tihar Prisons since May.
