Clarify if you are in favour of or against the construction of a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh asked political parties on Monday, moments after he was re-inducted into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a stint in the Raj Bhavan in Rajasthan.

Mr. Singh recently completed his tenure as Governor of Rajasthan, bringing to an end the constitutional immunity he enjoyed from persecution in the Babri Masjid demolition case in which he is an accused.

Mr. Singh was the Chief Minister of U.P. when the mosque was demolished by Hindutva activists on December 6, 1992.

When a reporter asked him if he would now face trial in the case, Mr. Singh did not give a direct reply.

“I don’t want to do any politics on this. But what I want to say is that all parties should clear their stand in front of people, whether they are in favour of the construction of Ram temple or against it,” Mr. Singh said.

Mr. Singh dismissed prospects of his return to the electoral field, saying, “I won’t contest elections. I have fought many elections.” He said he would contribute as a “disciplined worker” to make the BJP stronger.

Mr. Singh praised the Central government and the State government, saying, “a Ganga of development” was flowing in the State under the Chief Minister.
