Food security bill is ‘vote security bill’ of Congress, says Rajnath Singh

Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh lashed out at the Congress on Saturday, calling the food security bill “the vote security bill of the Congress.”

Speaking to the media after meeting Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat at the RSS headquarters here, the BJP president said, “The Congress party had promised in 2004 that within 100 days of formation of its government, it will bring the food security bill. But for the next nine years the Congress-led UPA government never bothered to do it. Now when the elections are approaching, they are bringing it in a hurry.”

Calling the ordinance on food security bill just before the Monsoon session of Parliament “a cruel joke on parliamentary democracy,” Mr. Singh said the BJP will not oppose the bill but will seek some amendments to it to ensure that that “most people are benefitted by it.”

Mr. Singh’s meeting with the top RSS leadership took place a day after senior BJP leader L.K.Advani had a “good discussion” with RSS chief, Mohan Bhagwat, and RSS General Secretary, Bhayyaji Joshi, on Friday.

Another senior BJP leader, Murali Manohar Joshi, was also summoned by the RSS on Thursday.

When asked about back-to-back meetings of BJP leaders with the RSS, Mr. Singh said, “Whenever I need guidance on social or political issues I seek guidance from the RSS.”

Mr. Singh refused to react to BJP general secretary Amit Shah’s assertions over the Ram Temple issue in Ayodhya.

“I have not heard his remarks, I will react only after listening to his remarks” he said.
