Five of a family killed in road accident in Mumbai

Five persons of a family including one child and two women were killed and five injured, after the milk tanker they were travelling in, overturned in Kasara in the neighbouring Thane district on Sunday. The mishap occurred at 1.45 a.m.

All the five deceased hail from the same family and were residents of Malad in Mumbai. The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Nashik.

The police have booked the 27-year-old driver Navnath Yashwant Gite under section 304 A for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. He has suffered fractures, and is undergoing treatment at a Nashik hospital, police said.

“The milk tanker was travelling from Nashik to Mumbai. The driver lost control of the tanker, which went into a nearby small nullah, and overturned. The mishap took place in Kasara new ghat,” Kasara police said.

The names of the deceased are: Samina Asif Sheikh (33), Sara Asif Sheikh (4), Abdul Kadir Sheikh (93), Saeda Bano Mohammed Arif Sheikh (56) and Irfan Arif Sheikh (22).

The driver of the tanker has been booked under sections 304 A, 279, 337, 338 of the Indian Penal Code, and sections 184, 66(1) and 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
