Five infiltrators were killed on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of J&K on Saturday, an Army spokesman said, as security agencies continue foiling infiltration attempts during the Ramzan ceasefire.
“An infiltration bid was foiled in the Tanghdar sector,” the spokesman said. The militants were engaged by soldiers manning Eagle Post. A search was under way in the forests of the Tanghdar sector and Gogaldara and Shalabhuto in the Keran Sector, a police officer said.
This is the third infiltration bid since the Union government announced a halt to combat operations in view of Ramzan. Three infiltrators were killed in Handwara on May 18 and a bid was foiled in the Keran sector two days ago.

A youth was apprehended at Safakadal in Srinagar, with a Chinese grenade, the police said. He was identified as Basit Ahmad Malik, a resident of Nowpora.
Shutdown in Hajin
A shutdown was observed at Hajin in Bandipora on Saturday against the killing of a civilian on Thursday. Two masked gunmen slit the throat of Yaqoob Ahmad Wagay in front of his wife and child.

Local people took to the streets and demanded action. The police blamed the Lashkar-e-Taiba for the murder, but the outfit denied involvement.
On the Major Leetul Gogoi case, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, directed the police to file a status report by May 30.
The order came after human rights activist M. Ahsan Untoo, chairman of the International Forum for Justice and Human Rights, said the police failed to register an FIR.
