At least two militants were trapped inside a residential house with security forces encircling them and engaged in a fierce exchange of fire in Srinagar on Saturday.
A police official said a colony on Srinagar-Bandipora road near Mujgund remained under cordon till late Saturday night with two militants holed inside a house.
The militants fired upon the security forces when they were spotted by them in the area. Preliminary reports suggest that at least three residential houses were damaged in the exchange of fire. Security forces have installed lights around the house.

Locals said they heard loud explosions after a fire engulfed several structures at the encounter site. A police official said they expected at least two militants to be trapped at the spot. The Army's 5 RR, the police's special operation group and the CRPF were engaged in the operation.
Several protesters took to the streets in the area and hurled stones at the security forces. "They was dispersed by the police and the CRPF," said a police official. At least two security personnel were injured and were shifted to a hospital in Srinagar.
The police could not immediately confirm whether the militants were killed or not. Their identity and affiliation could not ascertained immediately. "Fire has stopped. We are combing the area for bodies," said a police official.
