Don’t allow communal elements to rear their heads again, Gowda tells PM

The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to be careful and not allow the attempts of the communal and caste elements in the country to rear their ugly heads again, as scrambles for vote-bank politics gained momentum.

“…the ground reality is different, parties are willing to muddy the waters, and then fish in troubled waters.”

In his letter, the Janata Dal(United) president referred to the recent communal violence in Muzzafarnagar and said it appeared that communal hatred was being whipped up (in the area).

“If we sow the wind, we will reap the whirlwind – all parties need to be extra careful in these difficult times, and go out of the way to ensure that not only communal harmony is restored in that area, but each party needs to send the message loud and clear that they stand for good communal relations; votes are not worth having if they are dependent on dividing the communities,” he said.
