The Delhi Police on Wednesday said they have issued a lookout notice against AIADMK Amma leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran for allegedly attempting to bribe an Election Commission of India (ECI) official to get the ‘two leaves’ symbol for his party.

Joint Commissioner of police (Crime) Praveer Ranjan said the notice was issued as a preventive action.

The move followed speculation that Mr. Dhinakaran, being an NRI, could try to flee from the country, the police said, adding that immigration officials have been alerted. The police, however, declined to comment on the possibility of sending a separate team to arrest him.

On April 16, the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested Sukesh Chandrashekhar for allegedly fixing a deal with Mr. Dhinakaran to obtain a favourable order from the Commission in getting the “two leaves” symbol for the party faction led by V.K. Sasikala.

It is alleged that the deal was fixed with a promise of ₹50 crore. Mr. Dhinakaran had allegedly transferred ₹10 crore of the sum to a man in Kochi and further to hawala operators in Chandni Chowk, a police officer said.

Chandrashekhar allegedly received money through the Chandni Chowk based hawala operators and police are probing the hawala link.
