Delhi Police arrest suspected al-Qaeda member

Mohammad Asif, a suspected member of al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell on Wednesday.

Asif, who hails from Delhi had received training in the Af-Pak region and had recruited others here in India as well, the police said. He was arrested in Delhi on December 14.

"He had come to the Capital two days ago. We had intelligence inputs about his presence and arrested him," said Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Arvind Deep on Wednesday.

In May this year, intelligence agencies intensified surveillance to ascertain whether the AQIS, which back then released a video clip making a personal reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was making any recruitment attempts in the country.
