A people's review meeting against the Tipaimukh dam, proposed to be constructed at the tri-junction of Assam, Manipur and Mizoram, urged revocation of the memorandum of understanding signed among the Manipur government, the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and the Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd on April 28, 2010 and reaffirmed on October 22, 2011.
The meeting also sought the scrapping of the environmental clearance issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forest on October 24, 2008.
The official line is that the dam, estimated to cost over Rs. 4,000 crore, would generate 1500 MW, control recurring floods in the Barak valley in Assam, irrigate vast areas resulting in a saving of Rs. 150 crore annually to Assam and provide Manipur 12 per cent of power free of charge.

However, R.K. Ranjan, chairperson of the Citizens Concern for Dam and Development (CCDD), said the actual power output would be only around 400 MW which meant that Manipur would get hardly 48 MW.
