DAE pleads in PIL on Dr. Bhabha’s bunglow

The Department of Atomic Energy on Monday told the Bombay High Court that it wished to become party to a Public Interest Litigation seeking heritage structure for ‘Mehrangir’, the residence of renowned scientist Dr Homi Bhabha, in Mumbai.

“The court has given the department one week to file an affidavit,” Prashant Worlikar, who had filed the PIL, told The Hindu .

He said that the Department of Atomic Energy wished to turn the bungalow into a science museum.

‘Mehrangir’ was recently auctioned for a record price of Rs 372 crore. The property is located at Malabar Hill. The PIL has sought that the bungalow should be preserved as it is, as a heritage structure.
