Samajwadi Party leader and Lok Sabha member Rewati Raman Singh has been made an accused in the cash-for-vote scam case by a special court here. There is sufficient material on record to form an opinion that he was part of the alleged conspiracy despite the Delhi Police claims to the contrary, special judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal said on Tuesday.
Issuing summons to Mr. Singh to appear in court on November 3, the judge said: “Prima facie it appears that the accused was part and parcel and an important link in the chain of events of the alleged criminal conspiracy.”
Taking cognisance of the offence under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code against him, the court directed the investigating officer, Assistant Commissioner Rajender Bakshi, to issue the summons.

On October 14, the Crime Branch, through senior public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan, said there was nothing with the police to show that Mr. Singh was part of the alleged conspiracy. “We have examined the Parliamentary Enquiry Committee report, video and audio footage, and statements made before the police but no role of Rewati Raman Singh could be made out, which is why we have not chargesheeted him,” Mr. Mohan said.
However, the court ruled that the material placed on record and the signed statements of the three BJP MPs was sufficient to show that Mr. Singh was “the person who led the three MPs and arranged a meeting with [Rajya Sabha MP] Amar Singh, promising them that their interest would be taken care of.”
