The Congress on Tuesday asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to break his silence over the protests by Delhi Police (DP) personnel and described it as the failure of Mr. Shah’s leadership.
“DP personnel are seeking justice by surrounding their own headquarters for the first time in 72 years of independence and the law and order is in shambles,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said.
“What is happening in the country’s capital? On the one hand, lawyers are being fired at and, on the other hand, police personnel are on a dharna. If this is how things proceed, what will happen to the legal system?” he asked. “This is Amit Shahji’s political failure,” he added.

“Where is Home Minister Amit Shah. Please come forward and tell us how do you want to ensure that law and order is maintained in the national capital of Delhi and the entire matter is being sorted out as per the cannons of law,” he said.
“This is unprecedented. If law enforcement agencies are on the streets, what will happen to the common man?” asked Congress leader R.P.N. Singh, who was the junior Home Minister during the Congress-led UPA government.
Following clashes between lawyers and policemen in the past two days, hundreds of police personnel gathered outside the police headquarters to protest the assault on policemen.

The clashes were triggered by an fight that broke out in Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court complex here on Saturday. At least 20 police personnel and several lawyers were injured while many vehicles vandalised or set on fire during the clash at the Court complex.
