Congress mocks BJP for not releasing manifesto yet

April 05, 2014 04:04 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:04 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party issued a “charge sheet” against the Congress on Friday, the ruling party described the indictments as a “bag of lies’’ from a party without an agenda. The BJP did not even have a manifesto with just three days to go for the first phase of polling.

Briefing mediapersons here, Congress spokesman Randeep Surjewala said the absence of a manifesto reflected not just a lack of leadership but also indicated that the BJP was a party without a clear-cut programme.

The BJP was going to the electorate in the name of one man who foisted himself on the party, Mr. Surjewala said. He said this ran contrary to the pledge of good governance and ‘Vision 2025’ brought out by the BJP.

“The only agenda that the BJP has is sheer negativity, criticism and divisiveness. This is the real face of the BJP,” Mr. Surjewala said.

As for the BJP “charge sheet,” he said it was nothing but a “bag of lies” put together by a party devoid of ideas.

The BJP, for its part, has been insisting that the delay in releasing its election manifesto has been caused by “logistical” problems. It has set April 7 as the date for the manifesto release.
