A day after BJP president Amit Shah accused the Congress government in Karnataka of “breaking all records in corruption” at the flagging-off ceremony of a yatra by BJP leader B.S. Yeddyuruppa, the Congress on Friday hit back by asking him first to explain how the business turnover of his son, Jay Shah, grew 16,000 times in a year.
“Our Karnataka Chief Minister is right when he asks if this yatra is about expressing remorse or is it about telling people how to increase corruption,” said R.P.N. Singh, the former Minister of State of Home Affairs.
Mr. Singh said the BJP leadership should not be talking about corruption with the former Karnataka Chief Minister at the helm as he faced serious charges of graft.

“What an irony if the BJP talks about fighting corruption with Yeddyuruppa,” said Mr. Singh.
He also questioned India’s inability to counter China blocking the U.N. move to get Jaish-e-Mohammed, the organisation headed by terror mastermind Masood Azhar, blacklisted.
“Recently the government had claimed success for the BRICS declaration including JeM in the resolution. But on Thursday it failed to get him declared as an international terrorist at the UN,” said Mr. Singh.

‘Failed to check terror’
Targeting the government, the Congress leader alleged that “whenever the BJP has been in power, it has been ineffective in containing terror.” “This is the same Masood Azhar who was released at Kandahar in 1999,’’said Mr. Singh.
He added: “In 2014, Prime Minister Modi ji promised that he would get Dawood Ibrahim back. Whereas information came out that his wife visited the country in 2016 and the government is yet share the details.”
Asked if the Congress had any suggestion on how the Modi government could stop China from using its veto power in the U.N., Mr. Singh said, “It is for the Ministry of External Affairs to explain. When we were in power, we managed to do this for Hafiz Sayeed and isolate Pakistan.”
