The Congress on Tuesday played down plans of key UPA constituent Trinamool Congress to contest Assembly elections in Goa and Manipur, currently ruled by it.
“If I recall, at some point of time the Trinamool Congress had also contested elections from Tripura, Jharkhand and probably in Kerala. So I leave it to your judgement whether it constitutes spreading the political base,” party spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters.
His remarks came in the wake of announcement by the Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy that his party would participate in Assembly elections in Goa and Manipur.

Mr. Roy had also announced that former Goa chief minister Wilfred D’ Souza had joined Trinamool Congress.
“There is no bitterness in our ties with Trinamool Congress. There are cordial relations. There can be two opinions on an issue but it is not appropriate to term the difference of opinion as a rift,” he said.
