September 30, 2011 01:11 am | Updated 01:11 am IST - BOKARO:

A soldier of the elite Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite anti-Naxal wing of the CRPF, was injured in a gunfight with Maoists near the Jhumra Hills of Jharkhand's Bokaro district, where a massive combing operation has been under way for the past four days.

The jawan escaped with a minor injury after the bullet brushed past his neck. He was shifted to a Bokaro hospital, Superintendent of Police Kuldip Diwedi said. There were two encounters with the rebels during the day, he said.

On Tuesday, the Maoists killed two CoBRA jawans and wounded three in a gunfight at Amman near the Jhumra Hills.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Bokaro) Laxman Prasad Singh said the movement of militants was being watched through helicopters over the Jhumra Hills as a massive combing operation continued in the foothills. “A massive search operation by the CRPF/state police in the Jhumra Hills is continuing. We are watching their movement and their hideouts through helicopter surveillance.”

In the bordering districts of Hazaribagh and Giridih, the police were asked to join the operation to surround the rebels.
