Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers were flag-bearers of “Ek Bharat-Shreshth Bharat” and therefore should always keep the mantra of “Nation First, Always First” foremost.
Mr. Modi addressed the IPS probationers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy via video conferencing. He also interacted with the probationers during the event. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister of State (Home) Nityanand Rai were present on the occasion.
The Prime Minister told the probationers that they should keep the national interest and perspective in mind while taking decisions at the field level. He said they were entering the service when the country was undergoing transformation at every level. The police needed to be ready with more innovative methods to prevent new types of crime in the times of technological disruptions, said the Prime Minister, stressing the need to undertake novel experiments, research and methods for cyber security.

Stating that people expected a certain degree of conduct from them, Mr. Modi asked the probationers to be always mindful of the dignity of their service, even outside office.
He said efforts were being made to increase the participation of women officers in the force, expressing hope that they would infuse highest standards of efficiency, accountability and would also bring in elements of politeness, ease and sensitivity. The States were working on introducing the commissionerate system of policing in the cities with over 10 lakh population. The system had already become functional in several cities of 16 States, he said.
During the event, Mr. Modi also paid homage to the members of the police force who lost their life while serving during the pandemic.

He said that police officers from neighbouring countries undergoing training at the academy underlined the closeness and deep relations with those countries. “Whether it is Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives or Mauritius, we are not just neighbours but we also share lot of similarities in our thinking and social fabric. We are friends in times of need and whenever there is any calamity or difficulty we are the first responders for each other. This was evident during the pandemic period also,” said Mr. Modi.
Among the officers with whom the Prime Minister interacted were Anuj Paliwal, Rohan Jagdish, Gaurav Rampravesh Rai, Ranjeeta Sharma, Nithinraj P, Navjot Simi and Kommi Pratap Shivkishore, besides Mohammad Nazim, an Officer Trainee from Maldives.
