Centre may not name judge to probe Snoopgate

The move to institute an inquiry into snoopgate is likely to be dropped, though there is no official word on it as yet.

This comes a day after the >Nationalist Congress Party and the National Conference questioned the need for appointing a judge to head the inquiry when only days are left for the formation of a new government.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told the presspersons on Monday: “I am not aware about this … I will only comment after I see the official statement.”

On UPA allies questioning the decision of the government, Mr. Singhvi said, “We can and do agree to disagree with the view of our allies.”

Congress spokesperson and Mahila Congress chief Shoba Oza attacked the BJP and alleged that leaders such as Arun Jaitley were “trying to threaten” judges against taking up the inquiry.

The BJP was spreading rumours that the government was not getting judges to head the inquiry.
