Centre firm on setting up a strong Lokpal: Khurshid

Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid on Sunday said that the Centre was firm in its resolve to pass a strong Lokpal Bill and the stopping of agitation by social activist Anna Hazare would have no impact in its decision.

Talking to reporters in Farukkhabad, Mr Khurshid said the Centre was firm in its promise of getting a strong Lokpal passed with the support of all political parties.

The stopping of agitation by social activist Anna Hazare would have no impact on the process of passage of Lokpal bill, he said.

He said that it was the resolve of the Centre that there should be a strong Lokpal and all sections of the country get its benefit.

On being asked about any initiative on the part of the Centre to hold talks with yoga guru Ramdev or Mr Hazare, he said that deliberations create several problems therefore he decided to keep himself away this time.

On the crime situation in Uttar Pradesh, he said rising crime graph in the State was not a good thing and all parties should cooperate to check it.
