The BJP on Tuesday claimed the Central Bureau of Investigation raids into the controversial allocations of coal blocks are due to its campaign and maintained it vindicates the party stand that there was wrongdoing by UPA government in the matter.

Reiterating its demand for cancellation of 142 coal block allotments, BJP said the CBI raids on the companies is welcome development but the real culprits in the case should also be probed by the probe agency.

“These raids being conducted by the CBI...this action is based on our complaint...These raids by CBI are not happening due to the government,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters.

Mr. Javadekar and his Lok Sabha colleague Hansraj Ahir had filed a complaint with the Central Vigilance Commissioner who had forwarded it to the CBI and asked it to conduct a Preliminary Enquiry (PE) into the matter.

“These raids also show that there was wrongdoing in the coal block allotments...We are demanding and the nation expects that 142 coal block allotments be cancelled,” he said.

BJP further insisted that those who benefited from allocations and the money trail should also be probed.
