The Central Bureau of Investigation has booked a former assistant director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), along with his wife, for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

In August, the agency had arrested the accused Shashi Shekhar and another person for allegedly receiving a bribe of ₹10 lakh through a Kolkata-based businessman. At the time, he was posted with the ED’s Patna office.

The fresh case, which names Mr. Shekhar and his wife Anupama Shekhar, pertains to his income from 1991 till August this year. During the period, the official was posted in Mumbai and later in Patna. The CBI alleges that he amassed disproportionate movable and immovable assets worth more than ₹2.35 crore in his name and that of his family members.
