Several youngsters and police personnel sustain injuries; schools, colleges shut

Several students and police personnel sustained injuries in fresh clashes that erupted on Monday outside three educational institutions, forcing the authorities to close down several schools and colleges.

Trouble started in Lal Chowk when students of Sri Pratap College clashed with the security forces. Three police personnel received injuries in stone-throwing by students. Security forces lobbed tear-smoke shells to control the situation.

In Budgam district, students of the Government Higher Secondary School, Magam, staged a protest on the school premises.

According to officials, the class work will remain suspended at the Government Degree College, Magam, Boys Higher Secondary School, Magam and S.P College on May 16.

The Kashmir Valley witnessed a series of students’ protests following a police raid on the premises of the Government Degree College, Pulwama, on April 15.

Meanwhile, the police have detained several boys for unfurling Pakistani flag in Anantnag district. A group of boys unfurled the flag during an excursion.
