Caller warns of threat to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal

Man mentioned by the caller has been questioned; caller yet to be traced

A call was received on Monday morning at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence speaking of a possible attack on him by a person, the police said.

The person identified by the caller was questioned but the search is on to trace the caller, they said.

This comes a week after an email threatening to harm Mr. Kejriwal’s daughter was reported.

The call received at 11 a.m. on the landline number was attended by the Personal Security Officer deployed at Mr. Kejriwal’s residence, the police said.

“The caller said that one Bhola who owns ‘Vikas Tent House’ in Vikaspuri could attack the Chief Minister after which the call was disconnected,” said a senior officer.

The caller remained unidentified till Monday evening but teams are trying to trace him.

“No caller ID system is installed on the landline device but we are trying to identify the number and the caller,” the officer said, adding that other units of Delhi Police and security agencies have also been informed about the incident.

The police traced the man whom the caller had mentioned and questioned him.

“Bhola [48] from Rajouri Garden has been running Vikas Tent House for the past 20 years. He was questioned by investigators but nothing incriminating has been found so far. He has mentioned a family dispute regarding property, which may be the reason behind the call. However, enquiry is under way,” the officer said.

Caller ID request

A Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) official said they had asked the General Administration Department (GAD) several times to instal a caller ID system after a threat call was received last May.

“We have asked the GAD at least five times in the past 10 months to instal a caller ID but got no response,” said the official.

The AAP dispensation has been at loggerheads with the bureaucracy over its almost four years in power. In November 2018, a man had attacked Mr. Kejriwal outside his office in the Delhi Secretariat with chilli powder, leading the AAP to question the police and the government officials over the lack of security.
