Bullets fly in Gurgaon hospital ICU

Police officials come out of an ICU after armed men on Tuesday barged into the hospital in Gurgaon and shot at two persons who were undergoing treatment, injuring them seriously

Over a dozen armed people shot at a young man and his father in the presence of doctors and paramedical staff, in a daring attack inside the Intensive Care Unit of a multispeciality hospital here on Tuesday evening.

The assailants barged into the ICU of Sunrise Hospital and shot at Joginder (27) and his father Satbeer (50) in the head.

“Joginder and Satbeer had been brought to the hospital just a few hours ago with head injuries. While doctors and paramedical staff were treating them in the ICU, one of the intruders trained his revolver at Joginder’s head and fired a shot.

“The assailants then turned to Satbeer and shot at him similarly. They fired four or five shots in the air before fleeing. There was chaos inside the hospital and everyone was running for cover,” said its director Sachinder Jain Nawal.

Joginder and Satbeer were immediately put on ventilator and shifted to Medanta Medicity hospital. Their relative Ravinder, who was injured in a scuffle with the rival group earlier in the day, is recuperating in Sunrise Hospital.

The police said it was a case of personal enmity.

“Joginder and Satbeer had sustained head injuries in the scuffle outside a court. Joginder was booked for attempt to murder.

The members of the rival group then chased them into the hospital and shot at them,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Maheshwar Dayal said.

Hospital authorities have provided CCTV footage to the police to help identify the attackers.
