Likely to discuss prospects of Assembly election in the State

The BJP’s core group on Jammu and Kashmir will meet in New Delhi on Tuesday, ostensibly to discuss prospects of polls in the State and the current political situation, amid speculation that the Centre could be preparing to take some strong steps after it moved 10,000 paramilitary men to the State.

According to senior BJP sources, however, the meeting, called at the last minute, is unlikely to discuss any of the Centre’s steps in the State and instead is likely to be on the party’s own state of preparedness for political activity after the imposition of President’s rule in the State.

The Lok Sabha, in this session, cleared a six-month extension of President’s rule in the State.

BJP working president J.P. Nadda will hold the meeting, which will be attended by party general secretary in charge of the State Ram Madhav and the State unit office-bearers.

‘Reactions betray their nervousness’

Meanwhile, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr. Jitendra Singh said the reactions of the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the movement of troops, and any possible decisions on the repeal of 35A and Article 370 of the Constitution betrayed their “nervousness”.

“All noise is being made the National Conference- People’s Democratic Party and others because they can feel that they’re losing the people’s mandate. They have been carrying forward their legacy with 8-10% voter turnout. They are scared that if the situation changes, their sovereignty built in the last 30-40 years will finish. Secondly, action is being taken by the Modi government against scams, hawala transactions and in connection with Jammu and Kashmir Bank. Big names are about to come up and they are distressed about that,” he said.
