BJP wants action against Kejriwal for statement on NRC

April 27, 2019 09:31 pm | Updated 09:31 pm IST - NEW DELHI

The BJP on Saturday moved the Election Commission for action against Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly violating the model code of conduct, accusing him of having an intention to “create panic and mutual hatred between communities.”

In its representation, the BJP said Mr. Kejriwal said on Thursday that BJP president Amit Shah had said that besides Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs, all others were “infiltrators.” It was wrong because the party’s manifesto talked about the implementation of the National Register of Citizens in phases and about “illegal infiltrators,” not about certain communities being infiltrators, as claimed by Mr. Kejriwal, it said. This amounted to a violation of the model code and the Election Commission should ban him from rallies and public meetings, the BJP said.
