Remarks follow arrest of party worker, Bajrang Dal member for spying

Accusing the Bajrang Dal and the BJP of receiving funds from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s intelligence wing, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said more number of non-Muslims spied for the ISI than Muslims.

His statements follow the arrest of three men, one reportedly a former Bajrang Dal member and another a BJP member, in Satna on August 22 on charges of funding terrorism by acting as middlemen for Pakistani agents to pay informers who provided sensitive information.

Responding to a social media storm over his remarks, Mr. Singh on Sunday tweeted: “The police have caught office-bearers of the IT cells of Bajrang Dal and the BJP for spying for Pakistan while getting paid by the ISI. I have made this accusation and I stand by it even today. Why don’t the channels ask this to the BJP?”

Stating that Mr. Singh was prone to making controversial statements just to remain in the news, former Chief Minister and BJP leader Shivraj Chouhan said, “The country doesn’t even take him seriously. He and his leaders are speaking the language of Pakistan, which even quoted Rahul Gandhi for its own benefit.”

“As far as the Sangh and the BJP are concerned, the country and the world knows about their patriotism and it requires no justification,” he added.
