Balaji Telefilms evaded tax of Rs. 30 crore

In raids since Tuesday on the offices and houses of actor Jeetendra, his daughter Ekta Kapoor and son Tusshar Kapoor, the Income-Tax department has found that Balaji Telefilms, run by Ms. Kapoor, has evaded taxes to the tune of Rs. 30 crore.

“We have found that taxes were evaded by augmenting cost during the production stage of various projects in the last six years. Also, a property bought and sold by the company wasn’t according to the existing rates and land development costs were inflated to show lesser profits during sale of the property,” a senior I-T officer told The Hindu . The production house had agreed to pay the taxes and also the fine, he said.
