Bail order cheers DMK supporters

November 29, 2011 01:39 am | Updated November 16, 2021 11:54 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

DMK supporters at the Patiala House Court Complex were a happy lot on Monday after hearing news of the Delhi High Court granting bail to Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi.

But many of them returned slightly disappointed after hearing that her release from Tihar Central Jail would not take place on Monday.

Senior leaders of the DMK, including T.R. Baalu, T.K.S. Elangovan, and A.K.S. Vijayan, visited the court complex and oversaw the preparation of bail bonds and sureties. A number of MPs also thronged the complex.

Ms. Kanimozhi's husband G. Aravindan was present in the courtroom when news of the bail reached Patiala House. Sweets were distributed by DMK workers.

Relatives of the other accused who were granted bail — Sharad Kumar, Karim Morani, Asif Balwa, and Rajeev Aggarwal — were also overjoyed.

With the delay in the dispatch of the signed bail order from the High Court, Special Judge O.P. Saini left the court complex for the day before the release orders could be signed.

Expressing happiness at the favourable order, Mr. Baalu said he would like to see what conditions the court would impose on Ms. Kanimozhi for her release, as she would certainly be looking forward to visiting Chennai, besides attending the winter session of Parliament.
