YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is in the forefront of the campaign against division of Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday met leaders of two Left parties here in a bid to secure their support.

Mr. Reddy met Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury separately to apprise them of his party’s opinion against the creation of Telangana and explain why the creation of Telangana is not in the interest of the country.
It is not the first time the YSR has reached out to the two left parties on the issue of creation of Telangana. Mr. Reddy’s renewed attempt assumes importance as the Union government was going ahead with preparatory steps to introduce a Constitution amendment bill in the winter session of Parliament. He is expected to meet top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is in favour of creation of Telangana, on Sunday.
While the CPI is committed to creation of Telangana, the CPI (M) is opposed to division of States. “He wanted us to reconsider our decision. But we reiterated our position,” the CPI leader told reporters.
