Woman dead, 45 cases of gastroenteritis reported in Kurnool district

At least 45 cases of gastroenteritis have been reported in Kurnool district

One woman died of gastroenteritis at Arun Jyothi Nagar Colony in Adoni Municipality of the district on Wednesday morning, while she was being shifted to a private hospital for better treatment, while 15 cases of gastroenteritis have been reported from that colony where a religious festival - Maremma Durgamma Devara was held for past two days.

A similar outbreak has been reported from Gorakallu village in Nandyal Mandal of the district, where 30 cases were detected in the past two days. While three deaths have been reported there, District Medical and Health Officer Rama Giddaiah has denied the reports that deaths were due to gastroenteritis.

While Adoni Revenue Divisional Officer Ramakrishna Reddy visited the colony in Adoni to arrange a medical camp and get sanitation work done, Nandyal Sub-Collector Kalpana Kumari visited the Shantiram Hospital where some of the GE patients from Gorakallu had got admitted for treatment.

Dr. Rama Giddaiah said in a statement that at Gorakallu a health camp was organised since Tuesday and 35 Diarrohea cases were detected. Out of the 35 patients,l 30 cases were treated at the Health Camp by doctor Srujana and the medical staff. Five cases were referred to the District Hospital at Nandyal. While three joined at the DH, Nandyal, two others went to private hospitals.

About the three deaths, the DMHO said while a male aged about 35 years died due to ‘Chronic Alcoholism’ with Diarrohea, another person aged 56 years who went to a private hospital was treated and referred to the GGH Kurnool for ‘Kidney Failure’ and died there. One female patient aged 80 years getting treated at Shantiram Hospital died due to age-related diseases.

The Adoni RDO at a press conference at Arun Jyothi Nagar Colony said that the water supply in the colony was chlorinated and tests were done to ensure that was not the cause of the GE cases. He said all preventive measures were being taken up by the District Administration and the Local Body at Arun Jyothi Nagar. He said a sufficient number of beds were kept ready at the Area Hospital in Adoni.
