Will the sprawling Hyderabad Public School (Begumpet) be the new Assembly and the Secretariat for Andhra Pradesh, after its bifurcation given that Hyderabad will remain the common capital for 10 years?
Well, going by the developments in the official circles, HPS is being considered by the authorities to accommodate the Assembly, Secretariat or both.
The HPS building, a heritage structure, with its vast open spaces and located in the centre of the city, has turned out to be a favourite option for the officials.

Open spaces
They feel the massive building and the huge open spaces can easily accommodate both the Assembly and the Secretariat for Andhra Pradesh.
Apart from the location, considering the security aspect and the ample parking space it has, authorities are seriously considering Hyderabad Public School for this purpose.

Proposal studied
According to sources, already a team of officials had examined the proposal and sent a note to the higher-ups for perusal.
If the nod is given notices will issued to the Hyderabad Public School management to vacate the premises and hand over it to the government soon.
MCR-HRD
Simultaneously, the Marri Chenna Reddy Institute of Human Resources Development (MCR-HRD) premises in Jubilee Hills and the building of the A.P. State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Khairatabad are also being considered as other options.
Narrow road
“MCR HRD too is a good choice, but the relatively narrow approach road is proving to be a serious obstruction because residential buildings are located on either side,” an official said. However, the institute has sufficient open space and a constructed area to operate the Assembly or the Secretariat.
The APSCDRC building in Khairatabad was rated by some officials as unsafe from the security point of view. Managing the traffic with VVIPS, VIPs, employees and visitors there would be a Herculean task, they pointed out.
