Published - February 21, 2016 03:39 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Andhra Pradesh Government on Sunday issued orders to display ‘Village Level Water Resource Model’ in all gram panchayats in the State with a view to generate awareness on water issues at the grass-roots.

The model is envisaged to depict all the static water resources—rivers, streams, tanks, check dams, percolation tanks, farm ponds and other harvesting structures as well as the data on rainfall and ground water levels.

A district level committee chaired by the District Collector with five other members has been made responsible to plan, coordinate and complete the task by March 15.

The model developed will be displayed permanently on a flexi-board or a wall painting. It will be maintained by the Women Self Help Groups / Village Organisations. They will be responsible for updating State / District / Mandal / Village information on rainfall and groundwater levels on a daily basis.

The collectors have been asked to take up the project in a campaign mode in view of the critical nature of the project for creation of awareness on water issues among the people.

The Commissioner, Rural Development will allow an expenditure of Rs.10,000 per gram panchayat from MNREGS funds for this project.
