The Central government has given its in-principle approval for declaration of two State roads as National Highways, and detailed project reports are being prepared for taking up the projects, R&B Minister Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu has said.

One highway is proposed from Malkangiri to Sabbavaram via Narsipatnam and Chodavaram.

As a part of it, Sabbavaram to Tuni via Narsipatnam will be a four-lane road and Narsipatnam-Chintapalli-Malkangiri will be a two-lane one.

The 282-km road is estimated to cost ₹1,900 crore and 660 hectares of land has to be acquired.

As it involves forest land, the permission of the Central government has to be obtained.

It will have 11 by-pass roads of 55-km and a ring road at Narsipatnam.

Timeline

After a meeting with officials, the Minister told reporters here on Tuesday that it was proposed to complete the road in two-and-a-half years.

The project reports from Sabbavaram to Tuni and Narsipatnam to Tuni are almost ready, it is learnt.

The other highway is from Rajamahendravaram to Vizianagaram, passing through Rampachodavaram, KD Peta, Lammasingi, Paderu, and Araku.

The 440-km road will be a double-lane one and will cost ₹3,000 crore.

The road would provide connectivity to the entire Agency area and accelerate development, the Minister said.

However, for completion of work, all departments would have to work in coordination.

To ensure it, fortnightly meetings would be conducted, he said.

The 393-km Anantapur-Amaravati National Express Highway, estimated to cost ₹27,000 crore, would be the longest in the country, the Minister said.

Collectors of five districts through which it would pass have already formed land acquisition teams.
