Two Congress MLAs from the Nellore district sent in their resignation letters to the Speaker of the AP Legislative Assembly in support of their demand for the continuation of Samaikyandhra. This takes the total number of Seemandhra MLAs who have resigned to 19.

At a hurriedly conducted press conference here on Friday, Sarvepalli MLA A. Prabhakara Reddy and Nellore Urban MLA M. Sridhar Krishna Reddy said that their resignations should be accepted without further queries if the Central Government took a decision in favour of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

The MLAs expressed their anguish over the damage that would be caused to the people of Coastal Andhra region as many of them settled in Hyderabad and developed an emotional bond with the capital city. They said that in the event of the bifurcation, it would not be safe for the coastal people any longer in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.
