Two killed in Secunderabad wall collapse

Two labourers were buried alive when a mud wall collapsed on them at a construction site on S. D. Road in Secunderabad on Saturday. Another labourer escaped with minor injuries.

The victims, B. Sharadha (32) and Rajjiah (45) were hired by the site supervisor to remove mud from a construction site situated opposite the St. Mary’s Church even as works to build a cellar was in progress.

While the workers were removing the mud with the help of a proclainer, a huge portion of the retaining mud wall fell on them. Both were buried in the the mud and died, Additional DCP (North) P. Y. Giri told reporters.

The police have registered a case against the driver, supervisor and builder under various sections of Indian Penal Code. Hyderabad Mayor Majid Hussain and GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar visited the site. Mr. Kumar told the media that the municipal corporation had issued two notices to the builder - Maruti Rich Ventures Private Limited for building violations during construction. “We will take necessary action against the official’s concerned if their role in the mishap and in building violations surfaces during a departmental enquiry,” Mr. Kumar said.
