Two farmers hurt while fleeing from elephants

Two farmers suffered injuries when they were trying to escape from charging wild elephants at Boyanapalle village of Gudupalle mandal on Friday morning.

According to forest officials, Murugesh (38) and Ganesh (35) were on night vigil to ward off wild pigs from their crops. They slept early in the morning near a rock cavity, covering themselves with wild grass. After a while, the duo woke up hearing some noise, and they had the fright of their lives.

Two wild elephants stood close to them, trying to pick up the grass they had covered themselves with.

Terror-stricken, the farmers fled, with the jumbos chasing them.

Thanks to poor light, the duo could not see their path properly and stepped on a rock and fell over, with Murugesh receiving multiple injuries. The farmers had to hide behind bushes for almost an hour before elephants left the field. They were later admitted to PES Medical College Hospital near Kuppam. Both are said to be out of danger.
