TTD identifies place for second ‘hundi’

Surveillance camera also to be fixed

After several months of deliberations, the TTD has at last identified a place in front of the Lakshmi idol on the Vimana prakaram as the most ideal point for setting up its second ‘hundi’ on a permanent basis.

The ‘hundi’ at the temple of Lord Venkateswara on an average nets around ₹2.75 crore in cash besides gold, silver and diamond ornaments every day.

The Tirumala temple is the only place in the entire country where the devotees stand in long serpentine queue lines to make deposits into the ‘hundi’ in fulfilment of their prayers.

With a wish to de-congest the precincts at the ‘hundi’ area and reduce the jostling among the devotees while making their offerings, the temple administration during last year set up a second ‘hundi’ in the same location just a few feet from the existing one.

It is against this backdrop that the TTD has got readied a nine-feet high stainless steel supporting frame duly provided with gold paint akin to the existing one and is awaiting the temple scholars to come up with an auspicious muhurtham. An overhead covering is being provided to the supporting stand to protect it from the light and rainfall. A high resolution camera is also being fixed at the point for a round-the-clock surveillance.
